My Valentine
As firework bursts uncork chrysanthemums
to swirl a static sky with
ooh's and ah's,
Each watcher gasping as each new flash comes
and hoping still for more with
every pause;
As champagne corks release, with giddy flight,
wine drunk with hopeful
bubbles rising high,
Each one a tiny messenger of night
releasing tongue and graces,
heart and eye;
As sprinkled rain explodes a hasty spray
from sleeping dust of
dried-out desert seed,
Each shocking color pops up for its day
to summon forth the
partnership to breed;
So, livelier than
bubble, fire, or dew,
My lady makes the world
begin anew.
