Wacky DOGS!
Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are prized hunting dogs for waterfowlers
- the breed was originally developed for duck hunting in the Chesapeake
Bay area - but we have found ours to be wonderful family dogs. They
tend to be calmer, stronger, larger, hardier, and more protective than
Labs or Goldens. They also tend to be a bit strong-minded - these are
not a good choice for someone who isn't assertive. There's a great
cautionary article, on why you might NOT want to buy a Chessie, on the Chessie rescue site.
Chessies also happen to be hypoallergenic (because of their
short dense oily coat), which may not be important to everyone, but was
to us.
Much more about the breed can be found at the American Chessie Club or AKC web sites.
The Generation of 12/28/2006
Six pups survived, and have grown up in our stables. It's high time to find homes for the ones who haven't yet been claimed. All of them are swimming and fetching.
\
Gary (wide pink collar, m) is outgoing and loves to carry things.
Kudzu (green, m) is very birdy, and seems to be second or third in the pecking order.
Grapevine (purple, f) is also birdy, and a fairly dominant female.
Rover (red, m) is very birdy, and top dog in the litter. I'm keeping him.
Juliette (red/white, f) has gone to Austin for training as a therapy dog.
Rosebud (pink, f) was sold to our veterinarian.
The Generation of 10/9/2005
Sweetheart and Andy got frisky again, and this time we have six boys and two girls.
We like to name and identify the puppies right from birth - it
helps us to notice their personalities. Current names etc. are:
Jasmine (f, pink collar) small chest blaze, no toe marks, medium brown
Diarine (f, smileyface collar): Gamma-shaped blaze: two toes
RR. She was the runt of the litter, and (possibly because of the extra
attention she got) is a little more human-oriented than the others.
Tangler (m, purple) is one of the most aggressive (little blaze; pad mark).
Daystar (m, blackpaws) was the first-born. (long narrow blaze, no toe marks, medium brown, fairly dominant).
Shinobi (m, blue) long narrow blaze, no toe marks, medium brown
Nailo (m, black): small chest blaze, RR toe white, medium brown,
Wiggler (m, green): no markings; fairly fat and fairly dominant
Storm (m, red): short narrow blaze, no toe marks, medium brown,
This third litter may be Sweetheart's last, so we've been enjoying
them as much as we can. They are definitely well socialized!
As before, I am offering a limited guarantee of hips and eyes:
50% refund if a pup is diagnosed (by a vet, in writing) with hip
displasia or retinal atrophy within five years. (I'm a patent lawyer,
and don't make my living by breeding dogs, so even if I move you can
always find me through the national registry of patent lawyers at
http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/dcom/olia/oed/roster/index.html.)
The Generation of 7/6/2003
We had ten pups, of which two
succumbed to a poisoning accident at six weeks.

The Generation of 12/12/2001
This was an unplanned and unregistered litter,
but so far the results seem to have come out very well indeed -
Owners, please send me the "alumni news".
- Magellan (blackbones puppy collar) has gone to be a family dog in
Garland, taking care of a family with two Boy Scouts and a little girl.
- Bodey Guiness (was Butch, redpaws puppy collar) is now a
family dog in my own neighborhood, taking care of a family with two
little girls, two older Labradors, and a wonderful back yard - but the
older dogs have insisted on getting their respect!
- Joe (was Justin, purple and white puppy collar) was resold to a country home.
- Bishop (was Roscoe, redbones puppy collar) was resold to a country home.
- Brownie (was Toro, the dog who lived, red puppy collar) has
moved to Big Spring TX, where he considers himself to be in charge of
four other dogs, five horses, and 30 acres, besides playing with
Billie, Pete, and their mom.
- Leo (yellow puppy collar) is now taking care of a very bright oriental family in Plano.
- Timber (was Alys, purple puppy collar) is living with a real
hunting family, and was already making 30-yard water retrieves in
February. She has been greatly admired by her local retriever club.
- DeLouise (pink puppy collar, one white hind toe) has gone to
live with Alex and Amy and their kids, and may get a chance to do some
duck hunting.
- Jessie (was Fiona, green puppy collar) is taking care of a family in Tulsa. She was the escape artist in the group picture -
I think she may have been the brains of the litter.
- Daphne (Lego-colored puppy collar) is Queen of her new
household, where (don't tell your dog this) she sometimes gets ice
cream for a bedtime snack!
- Octavia (maroon puppy collar, white toes)
has relocated to McAlester OK, and is hoping to fetch some ducks this Fall.
- Ripley (was Godiva, wide aqua collar or sometimes nothing at all).
Owners, please send news and pix occasionally, or let me know if you want less information about you and your dog here.

Sweetheart
Sweetheart (Ch. Native Texan's Sweetheart)
is my first dog since childhood,
and has done a pretty good job of fingerwolf training.
Andy
(Redlion's St. Andrew Rhodius)
Andy's interests are ducks, fetching, swimming, affection, and (especially) GRRRLS!
He's big, gorgeous, and very friendly.
His fur is distinctly reddish, though NOT enough to be classified as sedge.
He is OFA good, and his CERF is perfectly clear.
